Gramíneas

Grass

Panicum Maximum cv. Massai

Agronomic characteristics

Good seed production and germination. Resistant to small levels of leafhopper populations. Medium and high demand for soil fertility. Recommended for undulating to heavily undulating terrains. Medium protection against soil erosion. Recommended for equine and bovine animals in weaning and fattening stages.

Adaptation

Adapts to medium and high fertility soils. Displays tolerance in soils with good drainage (low waterlogging tolerance). Ideal growth temperature is 30 to 35º C, with minimum temperature being 15C.

Liming and fertilization

According to soil analysis.

Seeding, germination and time necessary before use

Broadcast seeding or in 20 to 40 cm lines, with seed compaction. Germination takes 7 to 21 days, depending on weather conditions. Seeding depth up to 2 cm. Time necessary before use ranges from 90 to 120 days after emergence.

Production

Massai has displayed good foraging value, but its forage production and quality is directly influenced by the amount of nitrogen fertilizer used, available soil fertility and humidity.
